Outrunning the bear

This entry was posted on Thursday, February 15th, 2007.

Ever feel like your life is like trying to out run the bear? Working long hours, super busy, always rushing to and fro, can’t relax, irritable, caffeine use is up, and having difficulty listening to others. Have you ever thought of stopping and turning toward the bear and ask him what he
wants or why are you chasing me? And the chase goes on, overspending, skipping meals, binge eating at night, repetitive negative thoughts, dramatic mood swings, can’t be alone and nervousness.

Who is the bear and what am I outrunning, what am I afraid of that I can’t slow down and relax
and enjoy life? What happened that all this came on me? It wasn’t always that way, was it? There was a time when I had peace and quiet and life was enjoyable and I was hopeful. And then came the bear…

Oh, by the way the bear is depression and that is what we are trying to outrun, that is what we are afraid to look at, and guess what? Depression is really our friend and not our enemy.. Our friend?! You have to be kidding! No, depression is a message that we need to stop and take a look within and see why it is there. There is a reason, you know. Nothing happens without a cause.

So instead of running from the bear, stop and sit down with him and ask him some questions, like, what do you want? Why are you running after me? What is wrong? Why do I feel this way? What do you want me to know? You might be surprised at the bear’s answer. He might just say I have been trying to get your attention for a long time. Could we sit down and talk about some things. I have something you need to know.

Isaiah 57:10. “You were tired out by the length of your road, Yet you did not say, “It is hopeless.” Your found renewed strength, therefore you did not faint.

What God is saying is that He wishes you would submit and give up to him.
